Lifestyle photography isn't something that a lot of people know about. It isn't as common, and once people know what it is they turn away from it for many different reasons. Some of those reasons being: house isn't "pretty" enough for pictures, want to get dressed up, want a scenery of something other than their house, which is what they see every day, etc. Lifestyle photography tells a story, the real story about how you live. Sure, anyone can go out and get posed pictures done on location and you have those images to cherish for the rest of your life, but what about the ones capturing what you do in your every day life?? Where are those images? Yes, mom can take pictures of her kids playing in the living room, but photographers know how to find the light, put the right things in focus, and capture YOU interacting with your family and doing what you love to do.
It's fun to get those pictures of daddy and his little girl reading a book, or mommy and her little boy snuggling up on the couch watching a movie, or eating popcorn, or playing with his blocks. The possibilities are endless. Lifestyle is CANDID. Lifestyle is FUN. Lifestyle is YOU, in your element. It's very photojournalistic; it captures all the details. Who is going to capture you interacting with your family, and capture it the best it can be other than a photographer? No one.
Think about holding your chunky baby in the living room or the nursery while the sun shines through the window just perfectly. Or lying on the floor coloring with your precious four year old. Who is going to capture you cooking in the kitchen with your little munchkin? Just think about it. It doesn't matter what your house looks like; that's not what matters. What matters are the little moments that will soon be gone. You will want to remember those special moments and what better way to do that than telling your story through photographs? That's all you'll have when these moments are said and done. Even your pets can be in the pictures without worrying about what they are doing. They will be in the house, interacting how they do every day.
Lifestyle isn't limited to just family shoots. It can be maternity, newborn, family and even babies. What better way to do a maternity shoot than in the babies nursery? Capturing those images where you will spend your time after your little bundle of joy is born. Loving every moment in your element.
When you think lifestyle, think candid. natural. and REAL.
After eating dinner, making cupcakes and hanging out, what is a better way to "clean up" than a nice little bubble bath, watching the iPad, snuggling on the couch, and going right to sleep? Most lifestyle sessions happen during the day, maybe right before nap time for your kiddos. This one was a rare occasion and I shot right before bed time :) It's never too early to book a lifestyle session. Have any questions or concerns that I didn't mention here? Let me know and I'll answer them. No matter what your house looks like, where you come from, or how messy your children are, that's LIFE. Life's messy, but it's always nice to have someone catch those messy moments so you remember them forever!
